Who is Affected?
Given the steady removal of all the additional channels from the Sky fallout with Sky 1 removed then all other channels would stop converting back to digital you would wonder who was still using this pricey service?
Freeview Problems?
These users, who have not been given the option to go to the much better fibre-optic delivered Digital cable with broadband phone etc., are very likely to be in poor reception areas for terrestrial aerial signals and cannot move to Freeview.
"The signal was still marginal but Niki declared that he'd mount a bracket for the best chance. Twenty minutes later he got passes for all 6 freeview multiplexes! Digital Direct exceeded anything that I could hope for " Rob. |
Even if today's reception is marginal a good aerial installation can provide a medium-term answer when the analogue TV mast transmitters are finally turned off in 2011. Then the digital freeview transmitters can be turned up to their full power as they cannot interfere with the old analogue signals any more.
Even if the signal is marginal it is still worth a test with the latest aerials and amplifiers as we tried with another ex-analogue customer, Rob, see right.

Satellite Choices
Satellite may be an option but some of these users may not want to commit to a Sky contract.
Today there is also the contract-free FreeSat that provides many channels for a one-off installation charge.
Freesat broadcasts from the same fleet of satellites as Sky Digital, Astra 2A, Astra 2B, Astra 2D and Eurobird 1.
